V Beam Post Treatment Care

Depending on the lesion treated, immediately following the laser treatment, the area may have a blue/red discoloration called purpura.  During the time the purpura is present (5 days – 2 weeks), the area must be treated delicately.  Some swelling, discomfort, and in a small number of cases, crusting may develop within this time frame also. With any of these events, adhere to the following instructions:

          - Apply soothing cream or ointment to keep treated areas soft.

          - Do not rub, scratch, or pick at the laser treated area.

          - Avoid pressure or friction from tight clothes.

- Wear sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day.

- Harsh soaps, drying topical preparations, and shaving should be

avoided while the treated area is healing, as this may aggravate

   the treated area.

          - When washing the treated area, avoid rubbing with a washcloth,

and gently pat the area dry after washing.

-  Ice wrapped in a soft cloth may be applied for swelling or

 discomfort.

- 1% hydrocortisone ointment is also beneficial for any redness or

   swelling noted.

- Acetaminophen (Tylenol) may be taken for discomfort. Avoid

Aspirin and all aspirin type products.

          - An opaque or camouflage makeup may be desired to cover any

purpura or bruising.  Be sure to gently remove makeup to avoid

increasing the chances of scarring to the treated area.

          - If crusting develops that requires a dressing, please contact

the office.

Note:  With any post treatment purpura, the lesion may look as it did before the treatment or worse.  After your laser treatment, it can take 6-8 weeks or longer before clearing of the lesion is noted.

Laser Vein Treatment

(When indicated, before laser vein treatments can begin, a test site will be done to determine the best and safest parameters.)

Pre-treatment Instructions

1) If instructed/needed, come to the office ˝ to 1 hour before your scheduled appointment to have a topical “numbing” gel applied.

2) The areas to be treated should be clean-shaven, so as to not compete with the blood vessels for the laser beam.

3) Do not tan for 4 weeks before treatment and use sun block if areas will be exposed to sunlight.

4) Wear white underwear on the day of your treatment if we

will be treating the upper thighs.

5) Bring support hose or ace bandages with you on the day of

treatment, if available.

Post Treatment Care

1) Apply “chemical free” sun block to treated areas if they are going to be exposed to sunlight (i.e. titanium dioxide).

2) Use bland emollients as needed post treatment (i.e. Elta Cream or Post Peel Quick Recovery cream).  Use 1% hydrocortisone ointment for redness or swelling at the treatment site as needed.

3) Use support hose or an ace bandage on the treated areas for at least 24 hours, and ideally, for up to 7 days post treatment.

4) You may schedule your next laser vein treatment appointment in 3 months.

Laser Hair Reduction

(When indicated, before laser hair reduction treatments can be

scheduled, a test site will be done at least one week prior to appointment

to determine best and safest parameters.)

Pre-treatment Instructions

1) Must have at least 1-2 days hair growth so that the areas

    to be treated are recognizable.

2) Do not pluck or wax hair for 4 weeks prior to laser

treatment (you can shave hair as needed during this time).

3) Wear sunscreen and do not tan for 4 weeks prior to laser

treatment if area to be treated is sun exposed.

4) Remove all makeup or lotions prior to treatment, if

    possible.

5) Please advise us of your medications before treatment

(especially Accutane, Gold Treatment, and possible

photosensitizing drugs, such as Dyazide, Lasix, etc.).

Note:

** Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early if you will need

     topical numbing gel applied.
